At Milhaus, we talk about conscious living, but we also practice it extensively. Recently we received two Prodigy Awards from the Indiana Apartment Association that recognizes these efforts. One was for Best Overall Community Marketing Program and another for Best Community Green Initiative at Artistry.

Let’s talk green first. Artistry has been LEED certified as an environmentally friendly building. Residents also enjoy several green features not normally found in downtown homes including recycling, a smoke-free community and live greenery throughout the building. There are also energy-efficient light bulbs, appliances and water systems.

“The same attention to the environment has been applied at Circa, Milhaus’ new Chatham-Arch historic district development,” said Kim Hurd, senior director of residential services, Milhaus Management. “In addition to some of the same features, materials from the shop were repurposed.” These include metal siding that now serves as a wall covering as well as beams reused to create resident mailboxes and a large conversation table in the urban lounge. Light fixtures were created from the factory fans that originally lined the walls of the historic Mitchel & Scott company. The Maker’s Room also gives residents the chance to repair, reuse and up-cycle their own DIY projects.

Involvement in the community is also an important aspect of conscious living. While our efforts at Artistry were honored with this award, we actively support many local initiatives. Recently our staff worked side by side with other volunteers for IndyDoDay to improve the Cole Noble Neighborhood where Artistry is located. We’ve also partnered with Indy Fringe Festival to help renovate their space and are involved with Downtown Indy and We Are City to help continue to make Indianapolis a great place to live, work and play.

“We recognize that community involvement and being environmentally friendly are important life values for many of our residents and our employees,” added Hurd. “We are proud of the difference we can make in our neighborhoods.”

These two awards aren’t the only recent accolades. The construction of Artistry was also recently recognized with a Monumental Award from the Indy Chamber of Commerce for real estate development. All three recognize the thorough efforts into making Artistry an important part of the growing movement of downtown Indianapolis residents.
