Artistry St. Pete is a $52 million, six-story apartment project located at 1661 Central Avenue in St. Petersburg, Fla., and includes 246 apartment units, 10,000 square feet of commercial space and 324 parking spaces. Studio, one, two and three-bedroom units are available and range from 525 to 1,257 square feet. The impressive amenities selection includes a maker’s space, bark park and pet spa, fitness center, pool and rooftop lounge, a co-working lounge, and public rotating art gallery.

The community infuses luxury and urban living with an appreciation for the arts, showcasing local artists’ work in permanent installations across the property in addition to the rotating gallery. Milhaus worked with Amanda Cooper and Robin McGowan of the Morean Arts Center, as well as local artist Kathryn Gibson as a regional art consultant, to identify local artists’ work for the permanent collection and rotating gallery. The permanent collection is valued at over $125,000.

“The Morean was excited to work with Milhaus on this project because we hadn’t helped a company curate a gallery and permanent collection at this scale before,” said Cooper, Curator of Exhibitions for Morean Arts Center. “When we saw images of Milhaus’ other Artistry properties, we were excited to see that this wouldn’t be a generic space. We weren’t going to be matching artwork to sofas, but instead curating an edgy, outside-the-box display.” The Morean has been in existence as the only community art center in the region for over 100 years and focuses on the education and total engagement of the community around art.

Three murals are featured prominently on the property. St. Pete is known for its murals, and Milhaus and the Morean worked together to ensure residents and the public would be able to enjoy these signature works. Matt Kress, a local St. Petersburg artist, is creating the public facing mural at the property’s dog park. Another St. Pete local, Leo Gomez, is creating a mural in the fitness center that can be seen through the large storefront windows of the space. The largest mural on the property, by Tampa-based Jujmo, will be in the interior pool courtyard.

Artistry St. Pete will also include works from the following artists:

In addition to the apartment’s residential amenities, three retail tenants are expected to open by the end of the year. Mibella Nails Lounge & Spa, an organic modern salon, will open this summer. Raining Berries is opening in a 2,397 square foot space and will serve fresh acai bowls, teas, kombucha, frappes and coffee. Italian ice cream shop Mammamia Gelato Italiano will operate in 1,236 square feet on the west side of the building. Additional tenants will be announced soon.

Artistry St. Pete is the second location in Milhaus’ Artistry brand collection to open following Artistry Indianapolis. Additional projects are currently under construction in Kansas City, Mo., and Cincinnati, Ohio.

Founded in 2010, Milhaus targets Tier II cities with populations between 750,000 and 2 million people. The company’s current portfolio includes over 20 properties in eight states and nearly 4,200 units. This is the fourth Florida-based development for Milhaus.
