Small actions can make huge impacts on people and the community. That’s why many around the world including Milhaus have been participating in Random Acts of Kindness this week.

If you live or work in downtown Indianapolis, you may have seen us handing out cookies, flowers and meals. We saw this week as an opportunity to act upon our company’s mission to positively impact our community and tried to make a difference every day. Milhaus team members as well as those from Artistry and Circa apartments were out in force.

Because Mondays can be a little rough, we started with smiley face cookies and encouraged others to pay it forward.

On Tuesday, we partnered with Wheeler Mission to help feed some of the city’s homeless. In the cold of winter, a nutritious meal can go a long way. We shopped, assembled the meals, and delivered the brown bag lunches. Then on Wednesday, we recognized the heroic work our local fire department with a large stack of pizzas for lunch..

While Thursday was cold and blustery, we tried to brighten the day with red carnations. Often a bit of bold color can make a big difference.

Our last project wraps up today, with a book and multimedia collection for Indy Reads. Our staff brought in books, DVDs and audiobooks to be donated to this great organization that is dedicated to improving the literacy of adults and families in central Indiana.

While we are wrapping up the work week and our activities, it’s not too late to participate. The Random Acts of Kindness Week goes through Sunday. The foundation dedicated to celebrating sharing positive actions and comments has several suggestions. They are encouraging everyone to flood their social media feeds with kindness and uplifting stories. Tag your posts and tweets with #rakweek2015.

Like any movement, it’s great to focus on kindness for a week, but it can be even more powerful if we continue to practice these actions throughout the year. Join us in making a difference in the community!
